Signal detection theory Flashcards
Reciever operation curve
The curve has two distributions (A and B)
The criterion response is bar in the middle.
Overlap on the left side of the bar is MISS
Overlap on the right side of the bar is FA
D prime (d’ ) = the discriminability
Lots of overlap means low d prime,, little overlap means high d prime.
Signal detection theory
Stimulus A versus B / Absent or Present generate different internal representations.
Observer gts an internal criterion, if the signal exceeds the criterion the observer says A, if its below B
Hit = saying A when there’s A
Miss = Saying B when there’s A
CR = Saying B when there’s B
FA = Saying A when there’s B
Can be plotted
Very low decision criteria
High amount of hits but also high amount of false alarms
Very high decision criteria
Low amount of Hits but also high correct rejections (and low false alarms)
