Feature integration Flashcards

1
Q

Visual search

A

Task where you have to find a target

Easy when it pops out due to one feature (eg red T amoung green T’s) = feature search

More difficult when target is conjunction of two features. Combining the two takes effort = conjunction search

Q

Slopes

A

Feature slope is Zero slope (RT remains the same, quick bc it pops out)

Conjunction search slope is non-zero, the more distractors/larger the display size, the longer the RT.

Q

Binding features

A

Due to limited capacity, you can’t combine all features of the whole display at once. You have to attend groups of stimuli

Q

Feature Integration Theory (FIT)

A

Psychological theory about how you integrate conjunctions

Features are detected in parallel across the visual field. Only at the attended location features are integrated, which can only happen a few at a time due to limited attention capacity

Similar to Assembly coding, but here attention forms the glue that allows for integration

Q

Horse race model

A

Cortical activity has to rise to certain threshold to initiate a saccade. If the response is stronger, the threshold is reached faster. /
