Q

Higher order thought theory

A

Very philosophical, Distinguishes First order (FO) representations from Higher order (HO) representations

FO
- reside in sensory cortex, memory regions, arousal circuits, reward circuits etc

HO
- Fo representations need to be re-represented by higher order regions in the frontal cortex, = thoughts about the FO representation

Q

Varieties

A

Lot of theories about what these higher thought representations actually are.

Its very vague

ROC

A

Plotting the False alarms with the hits allows you to plot the d’

Q

Metacognition

A

Knowing that you know

Analyzed w detection task
- How sure are you that the answer you gave at the task is right?
- Includes confidence rating or a post decision wagering (bet on being right)
- The relation between high vs low confidence rating and subjects answering correct or incorrect is studied

The ROC can be plotted again using the Type 2 ROC (loting confidence rating and the outcome.
= the Metacognitive d’

*Argued for blindsight bij showing that there was no metacognitive awareness in the rivalrous situation. Relation disappears (Meta d’ = 0)

Q

Neural correlates

A

Stimulated bursts of lateral PFC, impars metacognition of face perception. Meta d’ - d’ = HOT.

Affect of inactivation showed slow decrease of d’
Effect measured; larger gap between meta d’ and d’
