Sign Test Flashcards
When will a sign test be used?
To test the data from experiments with a repeated measures design to check results aren’t due to chance.
What is step 1?
Subtract participant value from experimental column. If value is negative number put - . If value is positive put a + . If value is equal put a 0 .
What is step 2?
Calculate S which is the number of times the less frequent sign occurs
What is step 3?
Count total number of + and - , which gives us N
What is step 4?
Decide if hypothesis is one/two tailed (direction/non-directional)
What is step 5?
Use critical values table - use N column (total number of + and -‘s)
What must S be to be significant?
Equal to or less than the critical value (least occurring sign of +/-/0)
