What is a case study?
An in depth detailed investigation of one individual/small group
How are case studies rich in detail?
They provide rich depth and understanding about individuals - about real people and identify the truth about them
How can they allow unique behaviours to be identified?
Allows sensitive areas to be explored where other methods may be unethical
How are case studies not representative?
They are only about one person therefore cant be generalised to everyone
How might they include researcher bias?
They may interpret data etc their own way
What did Milner et al carry out a case study on?
Patient called HM who suffered epilepsy - doctors removed part of brain associated with epilepsy - suffered LT memory loss
What did Koluchova use a case study for?
Research twin boys whose biological mother died soon after birth - stepmother locked them in a cell for 5 years and beat them - aged 7 boys were underdeveloped
