Any death calls during non-operational hours requiring a detective response will be via Communications to the Homicide Section (LT/Bureau Commander) or designee.

When detectives from Homicide respond to the scene AND (blank) investigative responsibility, they confer with the responding officer and supervisor to determine who will complete the Dead Body Incident Report.

The homicide (section/LT) will be contacted on any deaths of media persons of media interest or child deaths from physical violence, LVMPD member or their family to determine if they will respond.

The (Abuse/Neglect Detail LT/ Homicide Section LT) will be notified on all child related deaths.

The Homicide Section (and/or; and) Abuse/Neglect Detail will respond to child deaths resulting from the following:
- Non accidental.
- An intentional act.
- Injuries and/or deaths resulting from blunt force trauma, abusive head trauma or the child may have been “shaken”.
- Medical neglect.
And/Or
Response to suspicious deceased children
The (Homicide LT, or designee/ Abuse Neglect LT or designee) will decide if the Abuse/Neglect detail and/or the Homicide detail will respond and assume responsibility for the investigation
