S.I. Final Review Flashcards
1
Q
Eukaryotic cells
Eukaryotes
A
Eukaryotic cell - contain a nucleus and organelles bound by plasma membranes
Eukaryotes - often multicellular
2
Q
Prokaryotic cells
Prokaryotes
A
Prokaryotic cells - do not have a membrane-bound nucleus or organelles
Prokaryotes - mostly single celled organisms, (flagella, fimbriae, pilli), cells walls (chemically complex), plasmids
3
Q
What microbes eat -> why they need carbons
A
- why they need carbons -> helps with metabolism (creating carbs, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids)
- heterotroph -> obtain carbon rom organic (or natural) forms
- sources like fungi and parasites
- make their own CO2 - autotroph -> obtain carbon from an inorganic form
- sources like plants and algae
- cannot make their own CO2, have to get it from another source
- heterotroph -> obtain carbon rom organic (or natural) forms
4
Q
What microbes eat -> where they get their energy
A
- energy comes from carbs, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids
- phototroph -> use light to make sugars/energy
- photosynthesis is the process
- phototroph is the type of organism - chemotroph -> gets its energy from chemical compounds
- phototroph -> use light to make sugars/energy
