Shoulder Region Flashcards
Name the bones in this region
Clavicle and scapula
Name the joints in this region
Acromioclavicular, strenoclavicular and scapulothoracic
Name the bursae in this region
Subcoaracoid, subdeltoid and subacromial
Describe the medial clavicle
Rounded, triangular cross-section, convex forwards, articulates with the sternum
Describe the lateral clavicle
Broad, flattened, concave forwards, articulates with acromion
List the bony points on the clavicle (acromio to sternal end)
Deltoid tubercle, trapezoid line, conoid tubercle, subclavian groove, costal tuberosity
List the bony points on the scapula
3 borders (medial, lateral and superior), 2 angles (superior and inferior), 2 surfaces (anterior and posterior), 3 processes (coracoid, acromion, spine), 3 fossa (supraspinatus, infraspinatus and subscapularis), 1 cavity (glenoid)
List the bony points of the sternum
Manubrium, xiphoid process, body, jugular notch and sternal angle
What type of joint is the acromioclavicular and what are the movements available here?
Synovial plane joint with small glides of acromion on clavicle
What are the articulations of the acromioclavicular joint?
Small oval facets on lateral clavicle and medial acromion, covered with fibrocartilage and an intra-articular disc
Describe the joint capsule and ligaments of the acromioclavicular joint
Capsule attached to articular margins and strengthened by fibres above and below. Ligaments are acromioclavicular and coracoclavicular (trapeziod and conoid)
What type of joint is the sternoclavicular and which movements are available here?
Synovial saddle joint with small glides
What are the articulations at the sternoclavicular joint?
Convex clavicle that’s larger and covered with fibrocartilage articulating with concave manubrium covered with hyaline cartilage (and costal cartilage of first rib), also an intra-articular disc
Describe the joint capsule and ligaments of the sternoclavicular joint
Capsule surrounds joint and is strengthened by anterior and posterior sternoclavicular ligaments and interclavicular ligament. Extracapsule ligament - costoclavicular
List the movements available at the shoulder region and estimations of movement in cm where possible
Elevation (10cm), depression (2cm), retraction (2cm), protraction, lateral and medial rotation
