The sun kami. Hid in a cave but was lured out through a mirror.
What do clams represent>
Good marriage and healthy children.
What do they toss in doorways of their homes after a loved one has died?
Salt
What is Harae?
The rites of purification.
DO they believe we are born good or bad?
Innately Good
What are shinto temples known as?
Jinja
Who lives in the temples?
The kami so it must be kept extremely clean.
What are Torii?
The gateway of shinto temples that separate the sacred from the secular.
Who is the honden for?
Kami
Who is the heiden for?
worshippers
What is a matsuri?
a festival.
Who was Hirata Atsutane?
the father of restoration shinto. Make the emperor worshipped as a kami. Strong streak of nationalism.
What was the meiji restoration?
When the imperial rule was restored. The emperor was only a figurehead but seen as divine and japan began to modernize. Government controlled shrines and temples.
