General in the Han era and became the god of war.
Who was Confucius?
Known as Master K’ung. Wanted to know what heaven wanted.
What did confucius believe?
You must align your actions with gods will. Governments should rule by virtue not force. People are good by nature.

Benevolence
Define Li.
Respect for tradition. How to act properly.
Define Yi
Personal morality
Define Xiao
Obedience to parents.

Who was Mencius?
Argued that ppl were innately good and that heaven was part of a person. Environment corrupts. Governments must provide needs so people can be moral.
Who was Xunxi?
We are selfish by nature. Need government and education to restrain impulses. Heaven is not moral. Religion is necessary but not true.
Who were the Mandarins?
Elite class of Confucian’s. Did sacrifices and studied texts. Helped elevate Confucius to the rank of a god. Had high merit.
What ere the 6 disciplines that Confucian’s had to master?
Archery, Calligraphy, Horsemanship, Math, Music and ritual.
