They ingested mercury or gold to achieve immortality (external). They used meditation to achieve immortality (inner).

The supreme god in Daoism but not a creator god.

The first emperor of china. Said to have invented writing and found the Dao.

First emperor of japan. United japan and started the monarchy.

The kami of rice and prosperity. Is an old man or a fox.

God of war. Guardian of warriors or all.

Kami of compassion. 33 manifestations. Protects souls and has a holiday each month.
What is sumo?
Based on shinto purification rituals. Meant to entertain the gods. Referees dress as shinto priests.
What was the Meiji Restoration?
1868-1912. Modernized economy, restore of the imperial family and stress the greatness of shinto. Move the capital to Tokyo.
