Non-motile and will not ferment lactose on MacConkey

Symptoms of Shigella infection
A
Same in humans and primates- water diarrhea, fever progressing to dysentery (blood in diarrhea, anorexia, dehydration) affecting cecum and colon

Does Shigella produce a toxin
A
Yes Shiga toxin which I results in loss of fluids and electrolytes
