17
Q

Ehrlichia ruminantium infects what

A

Endothelial cells

18
Q

Ehrlichia ruminantium causes what disease

A

Heartwater

19
Q

Ehrlichia ruminantium Transmission

A

Ticks

20
Q

Ehrlichia ruminantium In US?

A

No but we have the ticks and it is in Caribbean

21
Q

Ehrlichia ruminantium clinical signs

A

Vasculitis caused by endothelial cell infection, causes fluid around pericardium and other edema, can also cause neurological signs Because of brain edema, causes high fever, coughing, weak, respiratory distress, *sudden death in ruminants

22
Q

Ehrlichia ruminantium Diagnosis

A

Usually after death diagnosis, look for morulae

23
Q

Ehrlichia ruminantium Reportable

A

Yes

24
Q

Ehrlichia ruminantium Prevention

A

Tick control

25
Q

Anaplasma phagocytophilum transmission

A

Infected Ixdoes tick vectors

26
Q

Anaplasma phagocytophilum Diseases

A

Equine Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis and Canine Granulocytotrophic Anaplasmosis

27
Q

Anaplasma phagocytophilum Clinical signs of disease

A

Fever, lethargy, mild petechial hemorrhages and pancytopenia in dogs and horses

28
Q

Anaplasma phagocytophilum Diagnosis

A

Clinical signs and snap test or PCR or looking for morale inside neutrophils

29
Q

Anaplasma phagocytophilum Treatment

A

Antibiotics, tick control, no vaccine

30
Q

Anaplasma marginale causes what in what

A

Anaplasmosis (anemia) in cattle

31
Q

Anaplasma marginale Infects what

A

RBCs

32
Q

Anaplasma marginale Transmission

A

Tick or fly bite or infected blood contaminating a fomite

33
Q

Anaplasma marginale Clinical signs

A

Fever, lethargy, drop in milk production, pale membranes- ** affect older animals worse, increasing severity of disease with age

34
Q

Anaplasma marginale treatment and prevention

A

Antibiotics and maybe blood transfusion and in some areas they intentionally expose calves because disease less severe
Vaccine available in some places

35
Q

Neorickettsia risticii causes

A

Potomac horse fever

36
Q

Neorickettsia risticii Transmission

A

Organisms in flukes that parasitize snails and when water warms the flukes generate immature forms (cercaria) carrying Neorickettsia risticii which pass into the water from the snail
Or mayflies can pick up cercaria and contaminate water on close by farms

37
Q

Neorickettsia risticii Disease symptoms

A

Seasonal- spring and summer

Diarrhea, fever, edema, laminitis, mild colic, and occasionally abortion in mares

38
Q

Neorickettsia risticii Diagnosis

A

PCR of blood or feces, serology (ELISA)

39
Q

Neorickettsia risticii Treatment and control

A

Antibiotics, fluids, vaccine available but immunity short-lived
