SG 8.3 Flashcards
learn
What is the definition of transcription?
The process of making RNA by copying
What is the central dogma?
The process of DNA transcribing into RNA, and then later given a specific trait
What bases in RNA pair?
C -> G
A -> U
What are some similarities between DNA and RNA?
Enhancer/Silencer
Promoter
Exons
Introns
What are the stages of transcription?
Initiation
Elongation
Termination
Describe the initiation stage?
Transcription factors are being added and binded to promoters and RNA polymerase gets added and they begin the copying process
Describe the elongation stage?
RNA polymerase breaks freeze and adds a 5’ protective cap. As RNA polymerase copies, it begins to splice out the introns
Describe the termination stage?
the final step in a biological process, such as transcription or translation, where the newly synthesized molecule is released from the machinery involved, effectively ending the process
