SET TEXT 7 - DREAM - Lyrics Analysis Flashcards
ANALYSE:
‘And when the girls would walk by would would try to catch their eye’
This shows the misogyny related to rap music. Male rap artists focus on females and degrading them, maybe dizzee didn’t mean it in this context as the song is a true story, however some may decode it as this.
ANALYSE:
‘I was dead sure I knew it all’
He thought he knew everything - a representation of age.
ANALYSE:
‘Cause money don’t grow on no stick’
Shows Dizzee’s social class.
Many children believe that ‘money grows on trees’ and they can get what they want - however due to the poverty dizzee lived in he realised pretty soon that this wasn’t true.
ANALYSE:
The Chorus.
It’s sang by kids.
This could be a representation of Dizzee as a child as he had this dream he was determined to achieve - it’s basically saying if you have something you love and you want to pursue it then you can’t do that without a dream.
ANALYSE:
‘So I went to North London and trot to Tottenham to be precise
And got some air time on Heat FM’
He knew he wouldn’t make it if he stayed at home so he went further a field and tried different stations until he found on that would allow him some air time - he failed multiple times yet still succeeded in the end.
ANALYSE:
‘Grim and Glam’
‘Poor and Posh’
This represents how his life has changed - he went from grim to glam, poor to posh and he made his own way and his own money - his story shown in a few words.
ANALYSE:
‘Made an album over 100,000 people bought it,
Thank You’
Shows his gratitude to his fans - and he is a role model to young black boys who also have dreams.
If someone from the same background can do it, so can you.
He’s thankful for his audience.
