STAGE 1) Production.
Producing and Creating texts.

The extent to which a media text reaches audiences. In the film industry the higher the DVD’s and cinema tickets sold, the higher the circulation.

STAGE 4) Globalisation.
The process businesses and organisations go through to develop international influence and start operating on an international scale.

STAGE 5) Diversification.
The process of a company enlarging or varying its range of products, or branching into new ventures in order to gain a bigger profit.

STAGE 6) Conglomerate.
A large business which owns / consists of several different companies, such as Comcast, the biggest media conglomerate, owns 1000’s of
companies including universal.

The promotion of a text prior to release.

A set of rules / laws, or a code of conduct that defines how an individual or group should behave.
Media Regulation is the control or guidance of the mass media by the government and other bodies. BBFC are the UK film regulators.

STAGE 9) Vertical Integration.
A term used to describe ownership of production, distribution and the exhibition by the SAME company.
Conglomerates are Verticality Integrated.
INDUSTRY TERMS:
STAGE 10) Horizontal Integration.
Different companies that produce and sell similar products together. Not conglomerates.
A film has several production companies or several distributors. (I, Daniel Blake).

PUSH MEDIA Marketing.
Institutions pushing information towards us so that we have little choice but to consume it.
INDUSTRY TERMS:
PULL MEDIA Marketing.
Audiences actively choosing what media they want to consume and in what form. Choose to avoid.
