Session 9 - Posterior Thigh Muscles Flashcards
What are the three muscles in the posterior of the thigh collectively known as?
Hamstrings
Name the three muscles of the posterior compartment of the thigh
biceps femoris, semitendinosus, and semimembranosus
What are the muscles of the posterior compartment innervated by?
sciatic nerve
What is this muscle?
Biceps femoris
What are the actions of the biceps femoris?
Flexion at the knee
Extends leg at the hip and laterally rotates at the hip and knee
What is the muscle shown?
Semi tendinous
What the actions of the semitendinous?
Flexion at the knee joint Extension of thigh at the hip Medially rotate the thigh at the hip and leg at knee
What are the actions of the semimembranous?
Flexion of the leg at the knee joint. Extension of thigh at the hip. Medially rotates the thigh at the hip and leg at knee
Where is the semimembranous located?
Deep to the semiteniosus muscle in the posterior compartment
What is the innervation of the muscles in the posterior compartment of the thigh?
Sciatic nerve
What is the muscle shown?
Semitendinous
What is the muscle shown?
Semimembranous
