Cardiac arrythmia, hypotension, sedation,
sexual dysfunction, lowers seizure threshold, high incidence of anticholinergic effects (especially in the elderly).
Tricyclic Antidepressants
Serotonin syndrome, rash, seizures, increased bleeding when mixed with drugs that affect coagulation, ↓ appetite/wt. loss, hyponatremia, milder anticholinergic effects, ↓ libido, and insomnia
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)
Serotonin syndrome, sustained ↑ in BP and
cholesterol, insomnia, somnolence, ↓ appetite/wt. loss, hyponatremia, milder anticholinergic effects, increased bleeding when mixed with drugs that affect coagulation.
Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs)
Serotonin syndrome, mania, orthostatic hypotension esp. in the elderly, abuse and dependence risks, withdrawal effects can last weeks, hepatotoxicity, seizures, hypoglycemia in diabetics.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
