What would you monitor/do for a patient taking opioids?
A
- Assess pain via pain scale before/after administering.
- Monitor respirations (hold if below 12), BP, and HR
- Hold if hx of addiction

What would you do/monitor for a patient taking a narcotic antagonist?
A
- Monitor BP, HR, respiration rate
- Assess alertness and pain response
- Monitor response for second dose

What would you monitor/do for a patient taking Triptan?
A
- Assess for serotonin syndrome
- Assess HR/BP
- Assess for hx of CVA, vascular/ischemic heart disease, uncontrolled HTN

What would you monitor/do for patient taking a salicylate?
A
- Do not administer in children under 12 y/o; do not administer in children under 19 y/o w/ chickenpox/flu
- Assess for GI bleeding
- Assess for tinnitus

What would you do/monitor for a patient taking NSAIDs?
A
- Assess for Steven Johnson syndrome
- Monitor renal function
- Assess for hx of CV thrombotic events, MI/stroke. Do not give to patient with recent CABG.

A
- DO NOT give for more than 5 days.
- Monitor for GI perforation
- Monitor respirations (bronchospasm)

- BP
- Monitor liver enzymes
- Assess for hx of CV thrombotic events, CVA

- Assess for hx of alcoholism
