Symptoms of sepsis in adult
A
Slurred speech/ confusion
Extreme shivering/ muscle pain
Passing no urine in a day (dehydration)
Severe breathlessness
I feel like im gna die
Skin (mottled,pale, blue lips)

Sepsis red flags (high risk of severe illness or death from sepsis) adults + children > 12
A
- responds only to voice or pain/unresponsive
- acute confusional state
systolic bp < or equal to 90 (or drop more than 40 from normal) - resp rate > or equal to 25/min
- needs o2 to keep spo2 > or equal 92%
- non-blanching rash, mottled, ashen, cyanotic
- not passed urine in last 18h/UO < 0.5ml/kg/hr
- lactate > or equal to 2mmol/L
- recent chemo

A
- behaviour (no response)
- HR
- RR
- mottled/ashen appearance
- cyanosis of the skin, lips, tongue
- non-blanching rash
- under 3 months and temp 38c or more
- temp less than 36cc

Risk factors for sepsis
A
- Age (< 1 year) and > 75 years)
very frail - pregnant, have given birth or had a termination of pregnancy or miscarriage in the past 6 weeks.
- impaired immune systems
- surgery, or other invasive procedures, in the past 6 weeks.
- any breach of skin integrity
- misuse drugs intravenously
- indwelling lines or catheters
- close contact with people with group A streptococcal infection

Treatment (3)
A
- Antibiotics
- Broad spectrum antibiotics at
MAXIMUM recommended dose within 1 hour of diagnosis
- Narrow spectrum used once blood culture tests are done - IV fluids (for fluid resuscitation)
- Oxygen (give oxygen)

- Monitor urine output
