Sensory System Flashcards
Explain stimulus
A stimulus causes us to take an action.
Explain response
A response is the action taken as a result of a stimulus.
Name the five sense organs and their senses
The sense organs and their senses are: eyes for sight ears for hearing nose for smell skin for touch tongue for taste.
What makes up the central nervous system
The central nervous system is made up of the brain and spinal cord.
Explain motor nerves
Motor nerves carry messages from the brain.
Explain sensory nerves
Sensory nerves carry messages to the brain.
Can you explain what happens because of a stimulus to do with sending messages around the body
Some nerves carry messages from sense organs to the brain.
The brain decides how to respond to the stimulus.
Different nerves carry messages from the brain to muscles to cause a response.
Explain the iris and its function
This is he coloured part of your eye and the iris controls the amount of light entering the eye
What is the function of the pupil
the pupil lets light into the eye
What is the function of the lens
the lens focuses light on the retina
What is the function of the retina
the retina absorbs light to allow us to see
What is the function of the optic nerve
the optic nerve carries messages from the eye to the brain
What is the function of the cornea
the cornea allows light to enter the front of the eye
What is the function of the ciliary muscles
the ciliary muscle changes the shape of the lens.
Explain sensory system
The sensory system makes us aware of our surroundings and allows us to respond.
