Living Things Flashcards
What is nutrition
Nutrition is the way a living thing gets its food.
What’s respiration
Respiration is the release of energy from food.
Living things break down food in their cells to supply themselves with energy.
What is excretion
Excretion is the removal from the body of the waste products
Explain growth
Growth means that the organism gets bigger.
If a living thing is made of only one cell then growth means that cell gets bigger.
For living things made of many cells (such as humans and trees) growth involves dividing to form new cells.
What is reproduction
Reproduction is the formation of new living things.
Explain movement
The ability to move
What is response
Response means reacting to changes in the surroundings.
Reacting to a stimulus
What is an organism
A living thing.
Ex: human
