What is selective breeding?
Selective Breeding is when an animal is bred in captivity based on its features and characteristics. These animals are bred over generations do “perfect” their desired traits.
What is domestication?
Domestication is the aim for selective breeding.
This process includes capturing wild animals, taming them up and selectively breeding from the tamest individuals. This initial process of selective breeding is what kick started the breeding of desired traits and has brought us to where we are today with our domesticated species sharing our homes.
What are desired traits?
• Appearance
• Conformation
• Behavioural traits
• Characteristics of working breeds
• Production
