Q

What are some postpartum problems?

A

These are problems that occur after the female has given birth.
• Retained Placenta is when the placenta doesn’t completely come out of the uterus after the baby is born. Sometimes, a piece of the placenta is left behind in the uterus which can result in infection.
• Uterine Prolapse occurs when the muscles and tissue in the pelvis weaken. The weakness lets the uterus drop down into the vagina. Sometimes, it comes out through the vaginal opening.
• Post-Partum Depression is usually associated with humans as it is a psychological issue when the mother falls into a deep state of depression after giving birth. In humans this can happen when still caring for the offspring however in animals this usually only occurs if the offspring doesn’t survive, the mother can become depressed.
