What is an endoparasite?
Live in the hosts tissues and organs
What are some endoparasite examples?
Tapeworm, Eukaryotes, Parasitic Protozoa
What is an ectoparasite?
Live off the outside of the host by burrowing into the skin or living on the surface and drinking its blood
What is a direct parasitic life cycle?
They only live off of one host during their lifetime
What is an indirect parasitic life cycle?
Multiple hosts are needed throughout their lifetime (often for young parasites to develop)
What are some symptoms of parasites?
Intestinal illness which causes vomiting and diarrhoea and skin infections which causes rashes and itchy skin
What does prophylaxis mean?
Treatment or action taken to prevent disease
How are parasites treated?
With antiparasitic medication and often antibiotics to combat any resulting infections
How are endoparasite treatments administered?
Usually enterally in the form of pills or liquid solutions
