Learn how to do an animal health check
Why should we check the animals food and water intake?
To check if it eating and drinking enough (may indicate health problems)
What are some obvious signs of problems?
Discharge, smell, abnormal colouration, injuries and open wounds
What do Pink membranes indicate?
Healthy and normal
What do red membranes indicate?
Possible infection or heat stroke
What do yellow membranes indicate?
Liver or kidney problems
What do blue membranes indicate?
Low oxygen content in the blood
What do white membranes indicate?
Suffering from shock
What do black membranes indicate?
Necrosis (Dead tissue)
What is the body condition score?
1 - malnourished and severely underweight, 2 - slightly underweight, 3 - healthy weight, 4 - slightly overweight, 5 malnourished and severely overweight
What should you do if you don’t have the necessary information (e.g. Feeding plan, past weights)?
