selecting materials Flashcards
why should functionality be considered when selecting a material
because it must have the properties that help it do the ob it’s supposed to do in a product
why should availability be considered when picking a material
because it is important you get what you need in a suitable form, so that you have you product/ material on time
why should aesthetics be considered when picking a material
you need your product to look good if you want to attract a certain audience
- e.g - bright colours for children
consider colour, surface finishes
why should cost of materials be considered when selecting a material
how much you are going to sell the product for is important, you shouldn’t send a lot on expensive materials, if you are going to sell the product cheaply as you’ll lose money
why should environmental factors be considered when selecting a material
- using more sustainable materials which are biodegradable and recyclable limit the environmental impact
why should social factors be considered when choosing a material
because as designers, there is a social responsibility to act in a way that benefits society
- for example, using fairtrade may be more expensive, but they benefit the lives of farmers and workers who provide the materials
