Q

Tonic-clonic Seizure

A
  • Most frequent type of generalized seizure
  • Child experiences a sensation that the seizure is about to begin (aura)
  • Usually followed by two stages:
    1. A loss of consciousness
    2. Rhythmic clonic contractions
  • May last as long as 5 minutes and incontinence is common
  • Child may be drowsy or sleep for the next 1-2 hours
  • Aka “grand mal seizure”
