  1. Group of abnormal neurons that spontaneously fire
  2. often area is found to have scar tissue
  3. seizure focus functions autonomously
  4. emits excessive paroxysmal electrical discharges
  5. can recruit other neurons to discharge or spread
  6. spread can be local or global

describe etiology of seizures

A

Primary (idiopathic) 50% of cases
Secondary - chemical imbalance (blood sugar, drugs)
Febrile - most common in children
