The linkedin profiles of over 3500 different people in different occupations were analyzed and based on the posts they made machine learning in combination with watson and personality insights program. Based on their results they were able to produce career clusters based on personality types pertaining to particular careers. The program was able to match personality type to career with accuracy as much as 70 percent. This will be helpful in the future for understanding the types of personalities that go hand in hand with particular occupations and what occupations suit people based on their personalities and interests.

Linkedin argues that HIQ’s practice of gathering data on the profiles of employees who are likely to be poached and selling them to employers violates the computer fraud and abuse act of 1986 which prevents the access of computer services without their consent. Judges however have sided with HIQ stating that information is not being taken from users without their consent as the profiles are public.
