Q

The hidden agenda behind Mark Zuckerbergs “meaninful interactions”

A

According to the author mark zuckerberg’s plan for creating an algorithm that prioritizes posts that promote meaninful interactions between social media members rather than trying to sell products or political campaign ideas is just another way of taking advantage of consumers natural tendency to segregate. By segregating, consumers will now have formed easily visible target segments vulnerable to political campaigns and businesses.

Q

Facebook has turned data against us here’s how we fight back:

A

Facebook has made personalization(giving content to users that is most relevant to them based on data that was collected upon them) a stragety for advertisement to gain more useful information about potential consumers than it has before and this information can be used to make advertisements while spending the least amount of money on digital marketing. This is regarded by the author to be unethical because it grants private corporations with access to data which tells more information about users than users even know about themselves. As a result such corporations now have the power manipulate users in choosing what is relevant taking away the power from them. People can however rempower themselves by pushing for more customized services which contain algorithms for posts to show up based on user instruction and not through corporate power. Users in the future will soon be able to understand algorithms better so companies won’t be able to collect as much data or use overly complicate ones to control users.

Q

Facebook wants to offer you advice on preventitive health care

A

Facebook is planning on collecting healthcare information on users based on their age, etc. and recommending health center visits. Facebook will provide info related to the types of health care centers available in the area, users can write down their appointments, check in with the clinics and check of their appointments on facebooks page. This is causing concern to spin among lawmakers, and users due to the additional info that is going to be collected on users but facebook promises that they won’t be using this data for advertising purposes.

Q

I turned of facebook ad trackers and the ads only got more personalized

A

Turning of ad trackers doesn’t get rid of data facebook has it justs makes facebook use it less. Eliminating you interests prevents that same interest from being added to you ad data but similar interests can still be added. Other companies outside of facebook can sell your data to facebook and eliminating data about yourself can be a tedious task. Much of this data is often used to discriminate against users and advertise against them based on race and spread false information related to the political party they support.

Q

What does facebook know about you really?

A

Facebook has been reported to collect data on it’s users extensively to the point where the data that it collects matches up with users psychological profiles that even family, and friends can’t match. Facebook can also predict peoples profiles based on what their friends activity and can gain information from people on other platforms regardless if they are a facebook user or not. Studies have even shown that facebook can play a role in influencing political votes. The article recommends that users watch out for ads that are coming up, question what they see and where they were generated from to avoid manipulation. Facebook collects such data to provide information to companies who want to advertise to the right target segment.

Q

US and UK sign first ever deal to access data from tech companies like Facebook and Google.

A

US and UK sign a deal giving authorities the ability to request direct access from major tech companies like facebook, google etc. Before authorities had to consult the goverment first whom would then consult major tech companies which could takes months to years. This policy will be effective for authorities to access information from accounts in the US and Uk. Facebook and other platforms are still continuing to encrypt user data in effort to protect user privacy. This means that when somebody sends a message to another individual only they and that individual can see that message, not one else unless granted permission.
