An individual filed a lawsuit against tick tock claiming that it created a profile for them after downloading it without their consent and collected all sorts of biometric data about them. More information reveals that tick tock has been collecting data on US citizens and sending it back to chinese companies for a long time.
The California’s DMV is making 50M a year selling drivers personal information
The DMV uses the information it gathers from companies and sells them to various customers such as car companies, private investigators etc. It profits from this information and it is controversial if the DMV should be doing this with consumers privacy.

This act requires buisnesses to reveal which third parties they are sharing information from, which data they are monetizing from consumers and must give consumers the opportunity to opt out of if they want to. Many companies are angry and are pushing for federal regulation but this could take time and the the CCPA is far from difficult to adapt to.

N.J is planning on banning online companies from cellphone companies from collecting information such as your location, and mobile activity and then selling it to advertisers. According to a congressmen individuals are unaware of the policy requirements they have to sign into and are being coerced to reveal their data which can be dangerous.
