Q

How process do plants use to make their own food?
Explain what happens in this process.
What is glucose used to make and how it contributes to biomass?

A

photosynthesis
use energy from sun to make glucose
larger, complex molecules-that plants/algae need to grow that make up the plants biomass

Q

Where does photosynthesis happen?
What type of reaction is photosynthesis?
State the word and formula equation for photosynthesis

What 3 factors affect photosynthesis?

A

inside chloroplasts,contain chlorophyll absorb light
endothermic-energy taken in during reaction

LIGHT carbon dioxide + water --------------- glucose + oxygen

Q

Name the 3 things essential for photosynthesis
How can we calculate the relationship between a plant rate of photosynthesis and its distance from the light source? What type of relationship is it?
Look at graphs in the book and describe what is happening and state the type of relationship they have

A
Carbon dioxide concentration
Light
Temperature
1/d2
inversely proportional

as light intensity/carbon dioxide and temperature increases the rate of photosynthesis increases too(rate of p is directly proportional to light/carbon dioxide)at a point at which the rate levels off

but this is not true for temp as the enzymes become denatured at high temp 45 c and work slowly at low temp
