What are the ethical considerations in research?
they consider “vulnerable” poopulations (ex. children pregnant women, disabled people, etc)
What is the habitutation technique for infants?
The decline in responsiveness that results from novelty wearing off indicates memory
What is the preference technique for infants?
Inferring preferences from behavior
What are reward techniques for infants?
Giving them rewards for motor tasks researchers can study
What do eye trackers do?
They reveal where a child looks indicating attention, expectation, and knowledge
What do head cameras do?
Allows you to see what participant sees
What are Cross sectional studies?
A study design that studies many people at one time - can compare different stages of development for similarities
What are uses of longitudinal studies?
Can see how earlier events effect later events, but can overlook cohort efffect
What are sequential/ panel studies?
Follows cohorts longitudinally to see different outcomes for different variables - cross sectional studied check for cohort effect
What are twin design studies?
Explores genetics of disorders - children of twin designs are an extension by seeing how these genes get passed down unidentically
What are concordance rates?
Shared traits in twins
Proband
First person w a disorder and is used as reference
Discordance
The traits twins don’t share in common
What are normative age-graded influences?
Experiences that are similar for people in a similar age group
What are normative history graded influences?
Shared experiences to a generation for historical reasons
