Section 1 Flashcards
During the fed state, what does Acetyl-CoA turn to in the liver?
TCA for ATP or as a triglyceride
During the fed state, what d TG bring from the liver?
Turns to VLDL then Glycerol
During the fed state, glucose from the intestines go where?
Liver, Brain, RBC, Muscle, Adipose tissue
What are the three main ketone bodies?
Acetone, acetoacetone, and beta-hydroxybutrate
What would be an example of a xenobiotic?
Any drug
During the fed state, where do fatty acids come from?
Chylomicrons from the intestines
During the starved state, where do ketone bodies go to?
Brain
During the fasting state, where does the FA from the adipose tissue go to?
Muscle + Liver
Muscle: used for Acetyl-CoA, then TCA, then ATP
Liver: same as muscle and be used to form Acetyl-CoA, the Ketone bodies
During the fasting state, how does the liver get its glucose?
- Glycogen storage from the liver breaks down to glucose
- Adipose tissue breaks down TG to Glycerol then to glucose in the liver
- Muscle can break down its glycogen storage or break down its proteins and use up its AA
- RBC can break down Lactate to form Glucose in the liver
Where are chylomicrons derived from during the fed state?
Fats from the duodenum
During the fasting state, where does the glucose from the liver go to?
Brain + RBC
During the fasting state, what does TG in the Adipose tissue break down to?
Glycerol + FA
What is the resting metabolic rate?
24kcal/kg/day
Vit. A deficiency symptom
Xerophthalmia
During the fasting state, where do ketone bodies go to?
Muscles; helps make Acetyl-CoA, then more ATP
