Maintenance infusions/fluids, TPN, medications, larger volumes given over a period of time
What is the volume of fluid for an intermittent infusion?
50-250 ml
What is an IV piggy back used for?
Medications and fluid boluses
When would a syringe pump or mini infuser be used?
Volumes of 5ml-60 ml
Why is an IV push used?
Rapid med administration
Where should a secondary infusion be placed?
Higher than the primary infusion
What does CATS PRRR stand for?
c=compatibilities
a= allergies
t=tubing correct
s= site checked
p=pump safety check
r= right rate
r=release clamps
r=return and reassess the patient
What should be checked on meds prior to administration?
Type of medication and indication, safe dose, infusion time, compatibility
