What is the Vatican II?
The most recent meeting of the General Council of the Catholic Church in the 1960’s
It is an example of an extraordinary magisterium (conciliar) where lots of changes were made to church practices
What did the church recognise?
They responded to the fact that the world had been through significant change including 2 world wars.
What was the purpose of Vatican II
It was for the church to adress its relationship to the modern world and become more exclusive.

What is Der Verbum ‘Word of God”?
Bible reading was not a big part of the Catholic Life before this document, but afterwards, Catholic Christians are encouraged to read the bible and use it as a focus of prayer.

What is Sacrosanctum concilium “worship”?
Mass was traditionally said in Latin. Now mass is said in the local language of the area so people can understand and connect with messages.

What is Lumen Gentium ‘ the light of the people”?
Catholics did not openly evangelise in the community. now catholics are encouraged to “spread the good news” in a respectful way and to serve other people.

Catholics were ecnourages to see themselves different from other christians and to not mix with them. Now there is more of a belief that all christians are united in their belief of jesus and that Catholics should work with others for christian unity.

How would this change Catholics life?
They will look to the teachings of the Magisterium in the various Vatican II documents and fully understand the message of god in our modern day lives
