- SMC: SAR Mission Coordinators (Rescue centre)
- SCs: SAR Coordinators (National level)

- Sea conditions

What are some search pattern options?
- Expanding square
- Sector search
- Track line search
- Parallel track search
When is Expanding square an ideal option?
- The initial position of the target is known and accurate
- Only requires a single search unit
- appropriate for finding persons in the water
- Suitable for smaller and larger areas due to systematic expansion
When is sector search the ideal option?
- The intial position of the target is known and accurate
- The search area is small
- Multiple search units including aircraft
- The visibility is good
When is track line search the ideal option?
- When its known what route the vessel went missing on
- Long distance search area
- Uncertain intial position
- Multiple search units available
When is parallel track search the best option?
- Large search area
- Uniform coverage making it easier to spot smaller targets
- Miltiple search units available
