As the waves reaches the shore it breaks.The white foamy water that flows up the beach is called the swash.
Define Backwash.
When the water runs out of speed it stops and it flows back down the beach into the sea.This is called Backwash

Constructive waves have a strong swash which transports and deposits materials on the beach.They have a weak backwash which does not carry much materials back to the sea.
As a result,they constructed and add material to the beach.

Destructive Waves operate during stormy weather.They have a weak swash and they have a lot of energy and a very strong backwash which wears away and carries away material from the beach.Therefore,there is a lot of erosion and they destroy and destruct the coastlines.

Explain the process of hydraulic action.
Hydraulic action is the power of the water as it pounds against the coast.Hundresa tons of water may hit the coast when the waves break.
Explain the process of compressed air.
Compressed air is trapped in the rock by the incoming waves.This increases the pressure on the rock.When the waves move out,the air expands like an explosion.This can shatter a rock.
Explain the process of abrasion.
Abrasion occurs when the waves pick up rocks and stones and hurl the against the coast,breaking off even more rock.
Explain the process of attrition.
Attrition occurs when rocks and stones carried by the waves collide with and rub off one another.They are broken down and smoothed over time into sand-sized particles.
