Science Flashcards
What is the nature of science?
Science is the study of the natural world
Falsifiability
All ideas in science have the potential to be proven false
Define facts
An objective and verifiable observation
Define objective
Is not based on your beliefs, values, culture or opinion
Define verifiable
Anyone and everyone could test it and get the same answer
Science uses what to confirm facts
They use peer reviews
Why do they use peer reviews to confirm facts
Other scientists will do the same experiment and compare their results to the original results
Their is always what in facts
Uncertainty
What can be proven with uncertainty
Nothing in science can be proven or disproven with uncertainty
Hypothesis definition
An explanation as to why you think something will happen
4 musts within a hypothesis
1) Must be testable
2) must be simple
3) must also have a large scope
4) must fit in with current knowledge
What is a theory
Explains how nature works
What must a theory be
A theory must be falsifiable and testable
A theory is supported by many pieces of evidence and developed using other theories
Fun fact
What do scientists do when they test a theory
They test to try to prove the theory false
