Sarcasm
verbal irony used to mock or insult or express disapproval
Hyperbole
exaggerating something so much that it becomes ridiculous
Parody
to ridicule through imitation
Burlesque
Parody but more crazy, weird, big, ludicrous and incongruent with what’s being imitated
Caricature
A visual representation that has distorted the subject for a comedic effect
Incongruity
things just don’t line up or make sense together
Juxtaposition
presenting two opposite things to show the contrast
Oxymoron
a common phrase were two contrasting words are used together eg. bittersweet
Understatement/Diminutive
make a situation seem less important or impactful than it really is by understating and diminishing
Stereotypes
When the common presumption about a group is highlighted
Situational Irony
When the opposite to what the audience would expect in the situation/scenario happens
Verbal Irony
When someone says the opposite of what they mean
Invective
Insults that aren’t meant to be ironic
Horation Satire
More lighthearted, witty, tolerant satire
Juvenalian Satire
The type of satire that is more critical, angry and insulting
