What freedoms did Etrsucan women have?
Unlike many other civilizations, Etruscan women actually had a lot of freedom. They attended in everyday public life and were very respected.
What’s a Funerary Banquet and who attended?
Funerary banquets were celebrations for the dead and man and wife participated in them together. In the Sarcophagus of the Spouses, we see a man and wife sitting equally in a very loving pose.
What’s the piece made of?
It is a large-scale terracotta sculpture and is about 2 meters across.
What’s the coloring of the statue?
One of the best things about this piece is that some color is preserved. It allows us to clearly see the different skin tones of the man and wife and many other small details.
What did the piece hold?
Based on everything known, it probably held food, oils, and posibbly wine glasses and other lavish things of the sort.
