Erotes Lamp, Temple of Portunus, and Veristic Portraits Flashcards
Where was the Erotes Lamp found and how was it cleaned?
It was found by several rusted iron spearheads and stayed there for 2000 years. The lamp is made of copper, tin, and lead. As the dirt and rust is moved away, we can see the fine details. On the lamp are three figures: a dancer, two musicians, and a dancer.
Where is the Temple of Portunus?
It is in Rome.
What type of temple is it and what are some of the details?
It has many ionic features, and you can climb up on any side. It is also built on a base and is pretty small. It dates from 100BC.
What was different between the Veristic Portraits and the Later Roman ones?
This is one of the few times in history where the Romans made statues that weren’t based on idealism. There were figures of older republicans and leaders.
