What is the Tiber Island?
A small island that divides the city of Rome into two parts.
What’s the Palatine Hill?
It is a large hill covered with houses and palaces, the Imperial Palace is there and governmental decisions were made there.
What is the Aqua Claudia?
It is the city’s largest aqueduct and brings water from over 20+ miles from the mountains
What are the Baths of Trajan?
It is a large bath building that is in a little-less-populated area. This building is huge and represents what we think of as a Roman bath today.
What’s the history of the Colosseum?
After Nero’s death, the next emperor built the Colosseum over what was a lake. The structure is actually an ampitheatre and is famous for its gladiatorial battles.
What’s the biggest temple in Rome?
It is the Temple of Venus and Rome, these are actually two temples back-to-back.
How many buildings and people were in Rome at its peak?
Roughly 2 million people and 10,000 buildings.
Why do archaeologists have to dig down to find things in Rome?
When buildings were destroyed, the Romans always leveled them out and built over them. So, the farther you dig down the farther you go back in time.
