What is the CDO in relation to the Sector Command Center
In charge of the command center. Makes sure command center follows policy. Reports directly to CDO
What is the SMC in regards to sector command center

Who is the SAR Coordinator, what authority do they hold for cases?
District Commander. ACTSUS and authority to delegate ACTSUS
Three key items a non-distress boater should be advised
1) It appears there is no imminent danger
2) It is CG policy time defer to alternate responder; and
3) The CG will assist in contacting requested alternate assistance
Offer a MARB
Action if MARB is declined
SMC may monitor, but need not take no further action unless requested or situation deteriorates
How long will SMC wait on a MARB response?
Guideline of ten minutes is recommended before a CG resource or AUX facility is directed
Safe Haven? Consideration?
Safe haven defined as a location with available means of communication.
Typically vessel assisted taken to nearest safe haven, but exceptions can be made by judgment of SMC
NOK notification process
1) Obtain as much information/fact as possible, commit to memory.
2) Know the names of both the victim and NOK being notified.
3) Be prepared to answer questions.
4) Wear an appropriate uniform
5) Inform privately
6) Do not sugarcoat it
7) Do not use technical SAR language
