Cutter. Designated by OIC, experiences OOD with maturity, judgment, training, and navigator proficiency
Ashore. Designate navigation pretty officer. Experienced coxswain with enav, charts, and manual plotting proficiency.
OIC nav standard command responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with provisions of CG nav standards.
- Promulgate unit nav standards in 90 days
- Assign, train, and certify navigation personnel
- Incorporate principles of effective risk management
Additional OIC command responsibilities for cutters?
- Ensure primary nav team is trained and proficient
- Maintain crew proficiency in anchoring
- Fully understand all modes of operation for the cutter
Additional OIC responsibilities for boats?
- Ensure boat crews are trained to provide nav support to the crew.
- Develop coxswains ability to nav by seaman’s eye through extensive AOR familiarization
