General
- Particulars of ship
- Dimensions
- Tonnage
- Pax onboard
Navigational
- Does vessel have autopilot
- External and internal comms
- Area of operation (near coastal etc)
- Intended area of service (trade routes, length of voyages, trade areas)
- Master duties (PEC?)
Safety / Envo
- Mooring arrangements
- LSA
- Fixed fire fighting systems
- Cargo hanadling
- SOPEP
Engines
- Main engines / thrusters
- Is your vessel UMS
What are your actions if a change is made that effects the SMD?
- Inform flag and apply for a new safe manning document
Can a SMD be withdrawn?
Yes, if the company fail to report a change or if a ship persistently fails to comply with it HOR

When do you need a new safe manning cert?
- Any change to equipment, contraption or use which affects the safe manning
Can the Master sail without minimum safe manning numbers?
- Must never be allowed to go below minimum
- However, in exceptional circumstances Master can apply for an exemption for a limited period
