• IMO scheme, EAS super seeds ACS, delegates more survey work to class (ISSC, ILO, MLC).
• Only ISM DOC and SMD is done by MCA
• Incorporates a risk profile for each vessel. If vessel is deemed too risky then it will be removed from EAS

• Aimed to standardise the period of validity and the intervals between surveys.
• To reduce number of required surveyours, survey time and paperwork and ultimately costs.
