S12: Immune Reactions Of Blood Flashcards
1
Q
What are isoantibodies?
A
Antibodies in the serum of one individual, directed against the antigens of the RBCs of other individuals of the same species.
2
Q
What is hemagglutination?
A
The clumping, sometimes cell rupturing, of blood cells when two different blood types are mixed.
3
Q
What is cross-matching?
A
A simple test to determine if two blood types are compatible without specifically identifying the specific antigens or antibodies involved.
4
Q
How is cross-matching done?
A
Testing the blood cells of the donor against the serum of the recipient; if there are isoantibodies present in the serum, there will be hemagglutination on the slide.
