Q

What happened in the book of Ruth?

A

Naomi, a Moabite woman, married into a Judean family. Sadly, one day, the men of the family died out. Her sister in law left, but Ruth wanted to stay loyal to Naomi, her mother-in-law, and become part of her people and culture. So, Naomi and Ruth set off to Naomi’s hometown of Bethlehem to start a new life and find Ruth a new husband, so she can return to a normal family life, and they can fully deal with the complications of being a widow in Bible times (she needed a ‘guardian-redeemer’). They move to/work at one of Naomi’s distant relative, Boaz’s farm. Eventually, Boaz gets acquainted with Ruth, and is made aware of her loyalty, so he marries her and they live happily ever after, having a son named Obed, who became the grandfather of King David

Q

Who is Ruth?

A

Ruth was a Moabite woman who married into a Judean family native to Bethlehem. After the men of the family died off, the mother of the family, Naomi, urged the now widows to leave. One does, but the other, Ruth, doesn’t. Ruth wanted to stay loyal to Naomi, and become part of her people and culture. Eventually, because of this, she becomes the great-grandmother of King David, who is possibly the most important figure in the Old Testament
